Black-Ink Butterfly

12×16-inch print reproduction of a ballpoint-pen drawing, reprinted on matte archival paper.

When I look at this piece, I'm lulled by its symmetry, stimulated by its contrast, and immersed in its fine details. I'm also amazed when I recall the conditions in which I drew this: in a side room that temped 100+ degrees in the desert summer without air-conditioning, a small fan on the ground aimed up at me, and a few black pens, while I listened to an audiobook by Stephen King.
