Afrodite

12×16-inch print reproduction of a colored-pencil drawing, reprinted on matte archival paper.

The title of this piece is pronounced like Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. I changed the root spelling to make it Afrocentric, just like the woman shown here. Greece's geographical proximity to Africa is a harmonious coincidence.

Other harmonies about this piece:

1. Afro describes her hair.
2. Symmetrical are the butterflies (and her butterfly-patterned dress).
3. Aphrodite also happens to be the name of a brown butterfly species.

I blended and layered 9 different colored-pencil pigments to achieve the glow of her flawless skin.
